Woolston Farm is a specialist potato farm with a large cold store located in the South Hams.
With a steady day time load, east west orientation and box profile construction the cold store lends itself perfectly to the installation of Solar PV.
The entire 250kWp array was completed in under two weeks using our own in house installation team and financed under our solar lease programme.
Under the lease, CleanEarth will operate and maintain the installation for the 20 year term while 100% of the generated electricity is available for onsite consumption at heavily subsidised rates – typically 50 – 60% cheaper than commercial rates.
At the end of the 20 year term the landlord can either choose to have the installation removed free of cost or inherit the system for a peppercorn at which point it will continue to generate electricity at greater than 80% of its installed efficiency.
While south facing orientations are optimal, where there is a large daytime load east west orientations will often result in a greater electricity saving because they generate electricity more evenly throughout the day.
What the Client Said
The CleanEarth team were very efficient and installed the system quickly. From start to finish there was no disruption to the running of our site.
It makes sense to utilise our large roof space to generate electric for the site – it was wasted space before. Therefore it’s a no brainer for anyone in this situation - Mark Sampson
