How does Commercial Solar work?
Commercial buildings can be used to generate electricity from solar energy by installing solar panel arrays on their roofs. The solar array converts the natural light into electrical volts via the use of thousands of photovoltaic (PV) cells. The larger the solar surface area of the solar array the larger the volume of electricity capable of being produced.
Having Solar PV installed does not impact on the day to day running of a business who maintain their existing relationship with their electricity provider. The diagram below demonstrates how commercial solar works for businesses:
What are the Benefits of Commercial Solar PV?
As well as providing a stable supply of electricity which is free for you to use, businesses who purchase their Commercial Solar PV system will get paid for any excess electricity generated and not used on site as it will be automatically exported back to the national grid. Businesses will also gain additional revenue from the Government feed-in tariff. This means that businesses can benefit from free electricity, which contributes to a strong financial return and make significant carbon savings from their solar PV installation.
The following table provides a summary of how much business could earn from a solar PV system based on roof size:
Why use Cleanearth Energy for Commercial Solar PV?
We make it simple! We are leading commercial renewable energy specialists with over 450 successful installations in the UK to date. Projects range from rooftop PV systems to large-scale ground mount solar farms.
Dedicated teams make it easy for us to manage the whole project from start to finish, including design and planning through to installation and on-going performance monitoring and maintenance. We design every system so that it matches our clients’ individual needs and complete the installation with minimum disruption to the day to day running of their business.
We are also one of the few companies in the UK that are able to install Solar PV systems completely free of charge. We pay for the installation, receive any Government feed in tariff and supply the solar electricity to our clients through a Power Purchase Agreement price normally lower than your current daytime unit rate. This means you can get started with no capital expenditure and benefit from guaranteed electricity cost savings straight away – and benefit from the significant carbon savings.

COMMERCIAL SOLAR – CASE STUDY
How Plymouth Life Centre generates 331,406kWh of free electricity
Plymouth Life Centre is home to one of the only Olympic-sized pools in Devon and is a major sports & leisure attraction for people living in the area, with over 1 million visitors entering its doors every year.
After high competition from both local and national providers, CleanEarth were chosen to complete the project due to our wealth of experience in large-scale installations. Crowned the largest solar PV system in Plymouth, the solar arrays feature an east/west design, low ballast non-penetrative mounting system, perimeter guard rails and an added stairway for easy maintenance access.
The system reduces the centres CO2 emissions by 142,537 Kg annually, massively reducing the environmental footprint of running its services. Read more on this case study here or view all our commercial solar case studies here.
