Bedlwyn Farm Turbine was officially commissioned on the 14th July. Situated near Caerphilly in South Wales, the turbine model used is an Enercon E53 standing at 86.5m to the tip. The turbine is the 30th mid scale (to 100m tip height) turbine in the CleanEarth portfolio.

As with all projects CE managed the whole process from initial site investigation and planning through to construction (in conjunction with the Enercon team).

In order to prevent proliferation of turbine types in the vicinity, a decision was made to use the Enercon. A similar model is installed less than a mile away

The turbine was approved through planning by Caerphilly Planning Committee and received full community council support.

Altogether over 5,000 tonnes of earth was moved to create the hardstanding for the crane pad due to the gradients on the Welsh hillside. The topsoil was transported elsewhere on the farm, assisting in  providing the landowner with more useable land.

The turbine will create around 2.1GWh per year, sufficient to power approximately 550 Welsh homes per annum – and will save the equivalent of over 18,000 tonnes of CO2 in its lifetime.

Consistent with all CE wind projects, and as a direct result of this installation, Philipstown will receive a community contribution in excess of £200,000 over the life of the turbine.

Another very successful CE project, resulting in a positive outcome for the landowner, the local community and the environment.
