The Buttermilk Confectionery Company is a family-run Cornish confectionery making business which has been trading for 50 years. The award winning company makes all of its products by hand and has recently moved its operation into a new 1.75 acre factory in Bodmin, North Cornwall.
CleanEarth worked with The Buttermilk Confectionery Company to install a 30kWp solar PV system on the roof of their new premises and a 50kWp biomass boiler in their new warehouse.
The confectionery must be stored at a specific temperature and the warehouse must not fall below 10c. CleanEarth’s biomass boiler heats the warehouse to the specific temperature required, as well as heating the hot water. The solar PV provides the power the processing room for heating and cooling, in addition to providing hot water, as part of the confectionery making process.
The two installations will provide significant energy savings for The Buttermilk Confectionery Company and reduce their CO2 emissions by more than 500 tonnes over the next 20 years.
System | System size | Annual output | Annual CO2 savings |
---|---|---|---|
Biomass boiler | 50 kWp | 65,700 kWh | 15,350 kg |
Roof mounted solar PV | 30 kWp | 26,300 kWh | 11,300 kg |
