Land at Rigmuir landfill site, Strathaven Road, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire
Installation Type: Three Turbine Wind Farm
Installation Size: 10.5 MW
CleanEarth are proposing a three turbine wind farm with a tip height of 149.9m, on land at Rigmuir landfill site, Strathaven Road, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire.
The proposed Rigmuir project is located within an ex-landfill waste site east of East Kilbride. The site comprises a capped landfill and wider waste area, and is located immediately adjacent to Blantyre Muir wind farm (6 turbines 115m to tip).
The Rigmuir turbines are expected to have an annual generation of over 37 GWh: sufficient to power over 11,000 homes, and saving almost 10,000 tonnes of carbon annually – making a significant contribution to the South Lanarkshire Council carbon reduction targets.
The Rigmuir turbines will fall within the East Kilbride Parish, to whom the project will direct a fund of £24,000 annually to the local community.
A virtual public consultation, allowing members of the public an opportunity to clarify any outstanding questions, was held on Tuesday 30th March between 2pm and 7pm.
