Private wire network with export limiting, for an energy-hungry industrial quarrying company

The Blackpool Quarry turbine is located within the former china clay workings owned by Imerys Minerals Ltd.

The turbine is connected directly to Imerys’ private 11kv network via a local high voltage substation, providing low cost, low carbon electricity for the long term.

In order to meet the electrical distribution company’s requirements, CleanEarth installed export limiting equipment which ensures that no power generated by the turbine is spilled back to the grid.

The location in a recently excavated quarry meant a complex foundation was required, consisting of 24 x 27m piles. This was designed and installed by our specialised external contractors with the CleanEarth team overseeing the project management.

The Blackpool Quarry wind turbine provides considerable savings on Imerys’ energy bills, and is a significant environmental statement in line with their corporate sustainability commitments.

CleanEarth have proven to us that they can deliver on time, that they engage with the communities around them and work to very high levels of environmental and safety standards.
