Tacher Wind Farm in Latheron is complete, with all three turbines spinning.
This project followed closely behind the completion of our Rigmuir Wind Farm last year, and now all three turbines are fully constructed and energised. Tacher Wind Farm was developed right on the edge of an existing wind development; we had seen further potential in the land that hadn’t yet been utilised and designed a wind farm comprised of three turbines 140m in height to tip, with blades 58.5m in length.
The energised Tacher Wind Farm will be generating an annual 39,000,000 kWh of low-carbon energy – that’s 39MW every year. This impressive generation is matched by the wind farm’s annual carbon reductions of 288,000 tonnes – that’s equivalent to 2.5 billion kilometres worth of driving and almost 150 million litres of gasoline consumption.
To see all of this come to fruition, our in-house team managed the entire process start to finish. Our dedicated Planning Team is a unique element of CleanEarth’s offering; all wind project planning from land permissions to public consultations is handled in-house. Tacher Wind Farm was no exception. Our team co-ordinated the entire project, including the delivery process of the turbine components. For Tacher Wind Farm, this delivery process started in Wick Harbour and continued through Wick.
The turbine component deliveries navigated roundabouts and corners throughout the local area, made possible through the rigorous route testing needed for a well-prepared delivery process. We managed the deliveries of all nine blades, three nacelles, and remaining components within less than a week. With all turbines arriving at the site, construction of the turbines could begin; an efficient and impressive process that quickly saw all three turbines ready for energisation.
With this latest edition to CleanEarth’s wind portfolio, we’ve already got another major project underway. This time, in our home county of Cornwall.
These projects are always feats of ingenuity. At CleanEarth we take on every challenge to get the work done, and now with another complex wind farm up and running we’re already on to the next.
