Owen Taylor and Sons are a long-standing family run butchers, in operation since 1922 and selling their products within retail and catering across the East Midlands. With a history of over a hundred years of operations, they keep their commitment to quality at the heart of their work.
With this long history, they have good business practice in their DNA at Owen Taylor and Sons. And with operational costs on the rise across all industries, they understand the necessity for solar. That’s why we’ve been back to their premises for a third time, to take their savings from the thousands to the millions.
We initially came to work with Owen Taylor and Sons to help them tackle rising energy bills, first installing a 60.60 kWp solar PV system for their original site. In 2023 they called us back to install on their new site, and now we’ve returned for a third time to install an additional 300 kWp system with 600 panels. This now takes their annual generation up to over 320,000 kWh.
With these steady additions they’ll be saving £2,777,531 in energy costs across their systems combined lifetime. The scale of these savings across a series of installations shows the different approaches available to businesses. Owen Taylor & Sons started on their original site with an install that matched their current needs, until they were ready to expand their operations to a new site with a new installation and then a further extension.
By taking this steady approach to solar, they’re now able to benefit from significant operational cost savings. The business has also been able to mitigate their carbon emissions, now saving 61 tonnes of CO2e a year for meaningful lifetime savings of 1,451 tonnes. These carbon savings make a world of difference to their environmental impact.
With the agriculture industry under increased strain within 2025, these kinds of adaptable projects can be critical for taking back control over operational costs. With the flexibility to increase renewable energy generation as sites expand, businesses like Owen Taylor & Sons can grow their savings incrementally but very significantly.
