Another PMG member secures solar

Family-run with 30 years of operations, Thornbury Manufacturing and their new 156kWp system are CleanEarth Energy’s latest project for The Plymouth Manufacturer’s Group.

When the roof was initially deemed unsuitable in the long-term for solar PV, Thornbury Manufacturing were undeterred. And having completed numerous projects of a similar nature, our team already had a solution prepared.

We connected Thornbury Manufacturing with a local roofing provider and worked closely with them to ensure that the site’s conditions were optimal for the solar panels. Through this close collaboration, our in-house team were able to begin installation immediately following the roof repairs, allowing for a seamless transition between these two elements for minimal business disruption.

This project marks one of several installations made possible by roof repair work. Rather than ruling out the potential for solar PV, these initial setbacks can instead be opportunities to further future-proof your business; by securing not only renewable energy but a premises better prepared for the many years of operation still to come.

For Thornbury Manufacturing, their new solar PV system will be supplying close to 145,000 kWh of annual low-carbon low-cost energy. Through their solar generation, they’ll be reducing their carbon footprint by 660 tonnes cumulatively. These reductions mark a significant contribution to their existing efforts; Thornbury Manufacturing having already utilised funding from The Carbon Trust to reduce the energy usage involved in the compression and management of air.

They’ve also recently installed an LED lighting programme that has reduced the associated energy outgoings by a factor of four. By switching to a more renewable energy mix, Thornbury Manufacturing are also set to benefit from significant cost reductions of £1.3M over the system’s lifetime. These are crucial savings that can be reinvested elsewhere in the business.

Thornbury Manufacturing now join several PMG members as CleanEarth clients. Combined with members like Secure Innovation, PEG Precision Engineering, Hymec Aerospace Ltd, and Lang & Potter, the PMG is now saving close to 4,000 tonnes of cumulative CO2e with solar PV from CleanEarth Energy.

“The installation team at CleanEarth did a fantastic job. As the installation was underway, we could check in on our roof and see truly impressive workmanship taking place.”
