Refined Brands take sustainability and the longevity of their businesses seriously. With their portfolio of pioneering retailers like Celtic & Co., Turtle Doves, Frugi, and Kettlewell, they understand that those two things go hand in hand.
Currently, 70% of their products are sourced from renewable, recyclable, or compostable materials. Not only that, but 20% of their revenue is generated from fully recycled materials – with takeback services for clothes and repair services for two thirds of their brands.
It’s clear that for the companies within Refined Brands, sustainability is baked into their business model. After receiving B Corp status for two brands (Celtic & Co. and Frugi) this year and another brand on their way to certification, the timing was right to invest in solar PV for their headquarters in Indian Queens, Cornwall.
Refined Brands contracted CleanEarth’s in-house team to execute their design and installation, managing the entire process to install an 81Kwp system on their sites rooftop. This project will see them generating 370,000 kWh annually, which will take their carbon reductions down by 16 annual tonnes. With their solar PV system set up for a 25-year lifespan, those carbon savings will grow to 370 tonnes of CO2e, alongside half a million pounds in estimated energy costs savings.
These carbon savings represent 185,000 litres of gasoline consumed, or 2.6 million kilometres worth of driving, marking serious carbon footprint reductions for the Refined Brands portfolio. And this project is one of several Cornish installations completed by CleanEarth Energy this year, joining business like Country Lane Foods and W Harvey & Sons – demonstrating the county’s commitment to reaching its 2030 Net Zero goals.
