Another Plymouth Manufacturers Group member is taking strides in sustainability, as Hymec Aerospace Ltd expand their solar PV system for an additional half a million pounds in energy cost savings.
Hymec Aerospace Ltd have been in operation since 1978, with locations in both the UK and the USA. Their manufacturing work covers an expansive range of industries from aerospace and medical industries, to automotive and motorsport. With decades of experience, they’re very aware of how energy intensive these operations can be, and the high cost associated.
This led Hymec Aerospace Ltd to their first experience with solar in 2018 through a different supplier. But with energy costs still rising they wanted to explore the benefits of extending that original 2018 installation and were aware of CleanEarth through our work with other PMG members like Secure Innovation.
It was during the survey process that our team identified areas where the existing system could be supported for better savings. Through our Operations and Maintenance team we were able to provide what amounted to a complete health check, ensuring their existing system was operating at peak performance. By then extending the system with a further 434 panels we took their capacity up to 407kWp, generating a significantly increased annual output of 365,000 kWh.
Over the next 25 years, Hymec Aerospace Ltd’s latest installation will generate over 5GHW of electricity at an equivalent levelised cost of electricity of 4pence/kWh. That’s a quarter of what Hymec Aerospace Ltd pay for their grid supplied electricity. In its first decade alone, this system will save them an additional half a million pounds. It also brings their carbon savings to 75 tonnes annually, a big impact on their carbon reductions.
Having signed on for Operations & Maintenance with CleanEarth, they’ve also benefited from a full clean of their existing system, cable checks, and more to keep that upgraded system at peak performance.
Hymec Aerospace Ltd are in good company, sitting alongside PMG members like Secure Innovation, PEG Precision Engineering, and Lang & Potter with their CleanEarth installation. They’re now in a stronger position than ever to both protect against energy costs and mitigate the intensity of their energy usage.
