Breweries save on energy bills with solar

As leading providers of wind and solar, CleanEarth Energy have been providing renewable energy for over 15 years. Our team covers every stage of the process for renewable energy in house, helping businesses reduce the impact of their electricity consumption. For breweries, the energy bill can have a massive impact as operational costs put mounting pressure on breweries. But scaling back grid reliance with a well designed solar PV system can lighten this pressure significantly.

CleanEarth has worked with 15 breweries across the UK, providing close support through the different financial routes available and working to the business’s exact needs. With grants, extensions, and other solutions breweries can take back control of their energy in the way that best suits them; alleviating the strain of costly grid reliance.

You can learn more about our some of our brewery projects below, to see how solar can be adapted to the brewery.

Healey’s Cyder Farm

Healey’s Cyder Farm consume roughly 1.4GW of energy per annum, and are committed to developing carbon saving programs to mitigate energy intensive production. Their renewable energy is one of their most impactful initiatives. Their existing wind and solar projects reduce their carbon emissions by 39 tonnes every year, and with CleanEarth’s 510,1000kWh annually yield system they’ll be reducing their Scope 2 emissions by a further 97 tonnes.

Ludlow Brewing Co

Ludlow Brewing Co’s system started at 36kW capacity in 2021, with 50% of the project funded by Marches Renewable Energy project.

Following the success of this initial installation, CleanEarth then installed a series of extensions within the next 2 years took the system all the way to 120kWp. Ludlow Brewing Co wanted to to see their beers brewed using 100% renewable energy, and by installing their solar in stages were able to move ahead at a pace that best suited their business.

Keltek Brewery

Keltek Brewery

When Keltek Brewery were completing a major refurbishment at their Redruth, they made their carbon footprint a key priority. They chose CleanEarth following our installations for Verdant Brewing Co and Wiper and True, as well their neighbours OMC Ltd.

Their 122kW system reduces Keltek Brewery’s carbon footprint by 25 tonnes every year, reductions that will span 600 tonnes worth of Scope 2 emissions across the system’s lifetime.

Wiper and True

Wiper and True were on a mission to reach Net Zero by 2030, and solar generation was central to their decarbonisation plans. They started with a 40kW system in 2021, and seeing its success they then quadrupled the system’s size across the next 2 years.

Their solar PV system plays a key role along their Net Zero pathway. Wiper & True was one of the first breweries to employ a dedicated Sustainability Manager, and their commitment to sustainability has stayed strong.

Bluntrock Brewery

Bluntrock Brewery are local to to the CleanEarth Energy offices, and as their operations expanded into a full scale brewery they wanted solar embedded into the design process of their premises. We worked closely with the Bluntrock team from the start of their new build, creating a 87kWp system over the course of two installations. The overall system is generating 80,000 annual kWh of clean electricity, and saving their brewery over £17,000 a year in energy costs.

Verdant Brewing Co solar

Verdant Brewing Co

In 2021, Verdant Brewing Co were moving into a completely refurbished premises, and wanted solar embedded into the process with a tight timeline. CleanEarth installed their system in co-ordination with the refurbishments by liaising closely with contractors, resulting in a system that supplies over 90% of the electricity consumed on-site.

Verdant Brewing Co have since been generating electricity for around 4p per kWh, seeing major cost savings on their energy bills and protection from grid volatility.

Dartmoor Brewery

Dartmoor Brewery

Dartmoor Brewery installed 100kWp system with CleanEarth Energy that is generating roughly 80,000kWh of clean energy a year. This annual generation also reduces their carbon footprint by 15 tonnes and saves £16,000 a year in energy costs.

Over the system’s lifetime Dartmoor Brewery will see Scope 2 emissions of 370 tonnes, and in their first two years they’ve already seen kWh of generation – performing % above expectations.
